Legacy in Stone Oral History Project

Video summary of the Legacy in Stone Oral History Project, in collaboration with the National Opera House (NOH), Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation (PHLF), and Pittsburgh Creative and Performing Arts High School (CAPA)

In collaboration with Anna Samuels from the Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation (PHLF), I designed a workshop curriculum for students to learn about the practice of oral history and how it can illuminate the past of community landmarks like the Apple Street Mansion. After two instructional workshops, students interviewed community members from Pittsburgh’s Homewood neighborhood, as well as musicians and artists with ties to the Mansion. These interviews will live in a permanent digital and physical archive, and the workshop model can be reproduced in other classrooms.
